Italian-inspired Lagotto designed by Flack Studio

Lagotto is a new addition to the Melbourne hospitality scene, but feels as if it could have always been there. Inspired by Italian modernist Gio Ponti, Flack Studio designed the all-day eatery to have a sense of permanency, with Savannah leather upholstering the banquette seating in rich burgundy.

Serving up European-style hospitality, Lagotto is set to become a local institution, with a relaxed mood throughout the day and night. Flack Studio worked with local stonemasons, joiners, metalworkers and furniture and textile suppliers, including Pelle Leathers, to celebrate materials and craftsmanship, inspired by the originality of Italian migrants in Australia, and expressing a sense of nostalgia for 1950s Italy

The bar, service counter and tabletops have beautifully veined black and white marble, which also punctuates the pink terrazzo floor. There is timber for warmth; blue for colour; and brass inlay for metallic accent. Chairs and stools have burgundy-coloured seat and back pads, with Savannah leather upholstering the custom banquettes that curve around the dining space.

Flack Studio selected Savannah leather in Cedar for its deep, rich colour and heavy, soft handle. The upholstery is loosely gathered on the seat cushions and around the curve of the back rest to create the sense of the banquettes being comfortably sat in over the years.

Savannah is a full-grain German semi-aniline leather that exhibits natural characteristics and has a pronounced grain. The durable leather has a sumptuous comfort well suited for commercial and residential use.
