Terrace on the Domain occupies an enviable position, sitting on the edge of the the rolling green lawn and lush gardens of Sydney’s Domain. Five Foot One Design’s renovation of the building celebrated this setting with a garden party indoors and out, and a selection of Pelle Leathers upholstering the banquette seating.
Terrace on the Domain is a circular venue surrounded by glass, allowing natural light to flood the interior and providing 360-degree views of the exterior. An internal bar draws visitors into the centre of the venue, as do radial ceiling beams that highlight the central lightwell. Sunlight filters deep into the space, illuminating the Australian-flora wall mural by Kingdom Home.
Banquette seating curves around the base of this mural, and wraps around the perimeter of the venue beneath the panoramic window. The seating is a complementary combination of Nevada Jersey leather on the backrest and Panorama Leaflitter on the seat, blending into the lush background outdoors, and the green-carpet foreground indoors.
Nevada Jersey is a pull-up aniline leather produced on European hides, and the blend of oil and wax applied to the surface gives it an aged, distressed appearance. Panorama Leaflitter is a pigmented leather retaining its natural grain and exhibiting the natural hallmarks and variations in the leather. Vacuum dried in the tanning process, it has an ultra-smooth finish and a very full soft handle.
Colorado Chintz is also used on the banquettes. Colorado is semi-aniline leather finished with a blend of oils and waxes to achieve a crackled, distressed finish with a slight pull-up effect.
